One of the movies we rented to help pass the time on the long drive from L.A. to the Grand Canyon was Disney's The Kid.

Little did I realize that this children's film had some interesting worldview messages.

The Ethics of the Dark Knight

The Dark Knight will go down as one of the most successful, and most violent, films of all time.  My former employer, Warner Brothers, has released one doozy of a movie.  The Dark Knight is smashing records and taking in millions.  After watching it yesterday, I can see why.

Boycott Da Vinci Code? Wrong Move!

If there was any doubt The Da Vinci Code was going to make a gazillion dollars at the box office, it just vanished ... the doubt that is.  Now I know it will make a gazillion dollars.  A top official at the Vatican has called for catholics to boycott the film.

If your strategy was to get people to not watch the film, you should have ignored it.  Calling for a boycott is like pouring gasoline on a fire.  Now people will want to see it more than ever.  Dumb move.

In my opinion, this film is a gift to the church.  Why would I say that?  Because the cultural conversation will be focused on an area of the strong evidential aspects of Christianity: history, and in particular, the resurrection Christ.  The arguments raised in the DVC are flimsy and old news ... smart church leaders should be gearing up to train their members how to ask good Columbo questions to fans of theories of the DVC -- and how to defend the reality of the resurrection.

Who Do You Want Your Son To Grow Up And Be Like?

Ok, seems I have touched a bit of a cultural nerve with my criticism of Pride and Prejudice ... the book / movie some describe as the ultimate description of a woman's heart.  With wifey out of town, I rented Band of Brothers.  I just finished episode three (Carentan) of Band of Brothers last night.

I feel a poll is in order.

Given just two choices, who do you want your son (pretend you had a son if you don't) to grow up and be like and why.  Winters or Darcy?
